Rabbi Yisroel Isaacs
Rabbi Isaacs grew up in Binghamton, NY. While living in Israel with his wife Rachel and their family, he received Rabbinical Ordination from Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits at the Jerusalem Kollel, earned a special certification in the Laws of Family Purity, and completed the Rabbanut Hareishit Semicha exams in Issur V’heter, Niddah, Mikvaos, Eiruvin, and Simachos.
Rabbi Isaacs draws on a passion for Torah as a wellspring of human greatness and looks to the towering Jewish personalities and leaders of past generations as living examples of what a person can become. As a teacher, he relishes sharing the depth of Torah, walking his students into a topic step by step so they can experience its beauty and joy for themselves. He sees that depth as the inheritance of every Jew — the lifelong learner and the newcomer alike — and he approaches the wider world with curiosity, confident that Torah provides an essential perspective on humanity’s biggest challenges.
Rabbi Isaacs joins Young Israel of Phoenix after serving for 16 years as Rabbi of Beth Joseph Congregation; he is also the director of the Greater Phoenix Vaad Hakashruth and served for 14 years as Rabbinic Coordinator of the Phoenix Community Eruv. In addition to his love of lomdus, the history of the Eastern European yeshivos, Hebrew bibliography, satire, and following current events, he enjoys going on adventures with his family, Socratic teaching, and meeting new people. Rabbi Isaacs is a member of the Rabbinical Council of America.

Rebbitzen Rachel Isaacs
Rebbetzin Rachel Isaacs was raised in Lakewood, New Jersey, where she developed a deep love of Torah, community, and Jewish life from an early age. Rachel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University and spent a decade working as a pharmaceutical microbiologist in the United States and Israel before moving to Phoenix in 2010 and devoting herself full-time to serving the Jewish community alongside her husband.
As a Rebbetzin, Rachel is passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for connection, learning, and spiritual growth — especially by sharing the beauty of Shabbos, inspiring Torah study, and helping others discover practical, joy-filled ways to live a Jewish life. She is also an active matchmaker through SawYouAtSinai and other avenues, trying to help build new Jewish homes throughout the community and beyond.
Whether through classes, community programs, or personal relationships, Rachel fosters a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels encouraged to grow. She enjoys bringing her analytical mindset to her communal work; she believes deeply that every person’s connection to Judaism is unique and encourages each individual to find what speaks authentically to them, deepening their bond with Torah, mitzvos, and one another.
Rachel and her husband are the proud parents of five children.
